When our son suffered a seizure, he lost the power of speech. We were extremely fortunate when he was referred for Speech and Language Therapy and Alex was the therapist. Alex is firm but kind, she encourages and praises but mostly importantly she produces results. After his brain injury our son was unable to speak at all but now, he is able to speak in short sentences and talk on facetime with his children. We highly recommend her. 

A year ago my husband suffered a bleed on his brain, after surgery he had aphasia and was only able to say "No". Working with Alex over the last 6 months has been amazing. She is an exceptional person and speech therapist who goes above and beyond. Not only has she given my husband the tools and confidence he needs to improve his speech but also worked with his reading and writing skills. I can not stress how much confidence working with Alex has given him, he now engages in conversations and is able to effectively use the techniques that she has taught him if he is struggling. Alex has also taught him not to give up, he will go through hard speech days but with her help is able to put it behind him and carry on.

Our son Paul suffered a brain injury in a RTA some 22 years ago and whilst living in Cyprus he suffered a stroke in October 2021. His speech following the stroke was very weak, quiet and slurred and unfortunately we were unable to find a speech therapist in Cyprus. Following a return to the UK we were very lucky to discover Alex. Alex agreed to visit Paul at our home and following an initial Assessment Paul received weekly therapy sessions with Alex. Because of Paul's speech problem we felt that he was being excluded from most general conversations. With Alex's expert help and friendly approach Paul's speech has improved becoming louder, stronger and more clear enabling him to participate in conversations and therefore improving his general quality of life. We cannot thank Alex enough for all her very professional help and support and we highly recommend her. 

We were given Alex’s details by Motion Rehab at Morley. We dropped her an email and she replied very swiftly, noting we were closer to her than Morley which meant it better for her to come to us.  The home visits were much appreciated.

Alex accurately diagnosed my issue and suggested the best strategy for getting my voice back, which included homework. Not had that for a long while. But all very necessary to achieve results.

Alex has a very friendly and professional approach to her patients, which was very necessary in my case.  It was great to get to know her over the weeks and get my voice back.

You may think private speech and language therapy is too expensive but I can honestly say it was money well spent and Alex is more than value for money.

She has been like a beam of light shining the way through. Due to the way I was talking not many people could understand. I have had plenty of homework to do but if it was not for Alex we would not have got to where we are now in the designated time.

Losing my voice after a stroke 2 months ago was a frightening, frustrating experience  I never thought I would speak again but after Alexandra’s kind expert therapy I have my voice back.
We had a few laughs in the 6 weeks.

I can’t thank Alex enough for the help she gave  me when my 102 year old Mother had a stroke. She was able  to visit  very quickly, enabling  swallowing and speech issues to be addressed  as soon as possible .

Her bedside manner is wonderful  which was highly motivating for my Mother. She arrived promptly  to each appointment and  maintained contact via e - mails in between appointments which was very reassuring.

Her  help was exceptional and  professional and I would  highly recommend her.

Due to Parkinson’s, I was losing the power of my voice along with my confidence. I struggled to join in some conversations, finding the right words, putting them in the correct order, projecting my voice and running out of breath towards the end of a sentence.

All that changed after signing up for Alex’s LSVT - I call it a ‘boot camp’ for your voice. Since starting the sessions I have spoken in public a number of times, been a quiz master and taken back control of my voice and in some respects my life. A prime example is my daughter-in-law who said after a recent visit. “I have never known him talk as much.”

I call it a ‘boot camp’ because some days it can be a challenge. But with a sense of humour and Alex’s skills, the improvements were measurable by the day. The secret is to practice, practice, practice. I had lost my voice but now I have found it – there must be a song in there somewhere.

As the Parkinson’s has progressed and his voice became quieter and quieter, I have spoken for Malcolm more and more in situations where I know he was struggling to be heard. Conversations with family would go on around him and he was often very upset by this. In the car, walking by the sea, in busy cafes and many other places we used simple yes or no conversation. Sometimes just a thumbs up or nod of the head.

I felt his quality of life was suffering badly because of the lack of social interaction we all take for granted.

All that changed when we met Alex. From the first session I heard my husband’s long lost, strong, loud voice. It was as if Alex gave him permission to speak again. After about 2 ½ weeks he even started to sing!
